Keep Boston in your thoughts and prayers

Words can't describe how heartbroken I am about yesterday's bombings at the Boston marathon. I learned about the news when I got a text from my boyfriend asking if it was true. Followed by a phone call from my mom asking if I was safe. Shocked that something like this could happen here in our city.  The victims and there families  are in my prayers and I thanked god repeatedly yesterday that my family me friends were all safe. You never think something like this will happen in your back yard. Boston is an amazing city and the people here have so much heart and are so kind. Thank you to all the first responders and runners who ran straight to the hospital to give blood. While watching the horrific news you could see those amazing people helping and I think that's the positive image we need hold on to.

Keep praying for Boston

Another Snowstorm

We've been hit with another Noreaster. Don't get me wrong, I love the snow and living in New England it's expected that we get a lot but the snow days are adding up and now we'll be in school until June 28th. This is a little sad because as much as I love snow, I love summer even more and the thought of being in school until July doesn't make me happy.

It's been super busy in our classroom during the past month. We changed our dramatic play area into a post office for the months of February and March and the kiddos love it! The are having fun writing letters to each other and mailing them. Every Friday we deliver the mail and they are so excited to get letters from their friends.
This is the mailbox and the postal worker hats they made to wear when they pretend to deliver mail.

We were also busy making shaving cream snowmen and celebrating our 100th day of school. Which happened to be on March 1st because of all our snow days.

One of the nice things is that I have been able to do a lot of reading while snowed in. The latest book I have read and would recommend is The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. Her happiness project really inspired me to think more about what daily things I can do to get the most out of every day in a realistic way.

Well I have a cup of hot cocoa and some laminating & cutting waiting for me. I'll leave you with this image of my snuggle pup who is definitely enjoying her mama being home with her on this snowy day.

Happy Friday! :)

Happy New year and Currently!

Happy New Year everyone! It has been a busy couple of months especially with the holidays so I have some updates. Our classroom became nature spies this fall and we ventured out on our nature trail quite a bit. We collected pieces of nature and made really neat nature collages, we worked in pairs and compared leaves we collected, and we also read the book Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert and made our very own Leaf Man! Here are a couple of the ones that the kids made.

My co-teacher also found out about an awesome gingerbread man exchange and since we do a big gingerbread unit it fit in perfectly. We had all the kids make a gingerbread man and we sent them out to 13 different pre-k and k classes around the U.S. The kids were super excited when we started receiving the gingerbread men in the mail. We mapped all of them out and it was tons of fun!

Some of the gingerbread men we made.

The ones we received all mapped out.

The holidays were wonderful spending time with family and friends! I made a whole bunch of crafty pinterest gifts and they were a big hit. My brother got vinyl record bowl, my little cousin a personal lego briefcase, hot cocoa with bailey's for all the adults, and cute scrabble ornaments which were used as gift tags for everyone. I only have a picture of the scrabble ornament because unfortunately I forgot to take pics of everything else.

Here's one of the ornaments.

I'm linking up with Farley for January's currently because I love these!

I love the new Dave Matthews CD, my sister got it for me for Christmas and I love it!
Downtown Abby is coming back on Sunday and I'm super excited! It's a PBS show that my sister and mother got me hooked on, I love shows/books set in the past and this one is wonderful.
Lately I have been feeling very blessed for all the people I have in my life and also for the fact that I have a great job that I really love.
I am in need of a chocolate fix desperately and I have a recent obsession with hot cocoa. It will be happening after I finish this post.
Oh the laundry has piled up to an embarrassing amount. Especially since I was home for a week. What can I say the week was better spent spending time with my wonderful family and beautiful godson.
My One Little Word is Positive because it's something I want to remain throughout the whole year. Not really a resolution but a word I want to keep in the front of my mind every day when I wake up.

That's it for me....now time for that hot cocoa!

It's been awhile... and Currently

It's been a crazy start to the year but I have to say everything has settled down and going good. It's unbelievable how every year I forget how much work the month of September is but thankfully my wonderful little kinders are starting to get the hang of the everyday routines. I'm lucky to have 20 kids in my classroom which is heaven to me considering the rest of of district has really high numbers...some even up to 32! Believe me when I say I count my blessing everyday.

We are getting ready for our NAEYC re-accreditation and if you have gone through it before than you know how much work it takes. AND to add a little more stress to the year we just started a new reading program and are now using online work sampling. Both of which seem wonderful but when you compile all the new stuff to learn and the fact that we only got our training on the first day of school for teachers, its a bit much to have on your plate all at once. But noooo i'm not freaking out, I'm taking a page from Pete the Cats book and believe it's all good. Just have to stay positive I tell myself and it'll all fall into place. Well that was my vent for the day.

On another note, I finished making my tool kit at the end of the Summer and I was super proud of myself! I was showing it off to my Dad that's how proud I was. So here it is.... TADA

I'm kind of in love with it especially since my co-teacher and I share a desk to save on space since our room is super small. I love owls and I found these cute owls at Lakeshore and had to have them to decorate our door. Aren't they cute?!

I love Fall and Halloween! I go a little crazy decorating but it just makes everything look so much nicer!I also got some adorable flowers from the boyfriend on Friday. They said " Happy Fun Friday!" he's the best! :)
Last but not least... Here is my October Currently...Thanks Farly! Love these!

I'll have more pictures of some of our cute artwork soon!

From one vacation to the next and a fun linky party

Home sweet home...I'm back from visiting my wonderful sister and her family in VT. We had a blast spending time together visiting the farm and the aquarium. I think I may have had a little more fun than my cutie pie nephew Oliver did!

August is an absolutely crazy month for me, not only can we finally get into our classrooms but somehow I ended up with three vacations in one month! Visiting my sister was a mini vacation which lucky for me cost next to nothing which is always a plus :). I'm only home for today and then tomorrow I'm off to Mexico with the boyfriend. One of my good teacher friends is having a destination wedding and we decided why not make it our vacation. We are super excited and can't wait to enjoy the fun in the sun. Then we come back and I get to go into school to start setting up my classroom! YAY! Can't wait to change things up a bit this year especially after seeing all the great ideas on pinterest and all the wonderful teacher bloggers on here.

Finally, I finish off the summer with two of my great friends with a week down the cape. I plan on sitting on the beach all week reading my Reading Street materials (our new reading curriculum) which will be coming in at the end of next week. They didn't wait til the last minute or anything!

That is my crazy month of August and hopefully I'll squeeze in some time with my Kindergarten friends and finish up some of the crafts I have started.

The Resource Room Teacher is having a linky party about guilty pleasures and I'm starting to really love linky parties.

1. Chocolate.....I love chocolate it is my absolute weakness! Our secretary has a nice candy dish on her desk and I frequent it quite often during the school day and find myself having to buy her bags of chocolate to replace what I have eaten...oops. But come on who can resist a little chocolate!

2. Coffee .....I cannot function without my coffee in the morning. I think this is hilarious because I worked for my father at a Dunkin Donuts all through  my teenage years and never drank coffee but now I can't get enough of my Caramel Swirl Lattes.

3. Reality TV .... I know it's bad but I can't help it. It's like a train wreck that you can't look away from. The Bachelor and Bachelorette are the shows are follow every week. I'm also addicted to Talk About it Tuesday at A Tiny Teacher's blog because she is hilarious with her commentary about the shows! I also like to watch So You Think You Can Dance because the dancers are so talented.

Those are just a few of my many guilty pleasures, Link up and share with this fun linky party!

Crafts and cute buys

I survived my last day of summer school yesterday! The kids did an awesome job at our end of summer school show. They were all community helpers and recited poems about each helper that we learned. It was super cute and I was so proud of them!

It feels great to have the rest of the summer off but there's still so much left to do. I finally started some of my crafting that I've been putting off. I made these scrabble coasters for my boyfriend (addicted to words with friends) and I'm looking forward to him getting here tonight so I can give them to him. :)

I also made a trip to target and went a little crazy with the dollar deals. I couldn't help myself, they had all these cute star name tags and stickers. We call our students the sparkling stars so all of these cute star tags go great with our theme. I also bought some crates so that I can work on my next pinterest project (crate seats).

I'm heading to Vermont on Sunday to spend most of the week with my wonderful sister and god son Oliver. Oh yea and my brother in law too. I'm super excited and already have her birthday gift basket made. I got her a magazine subscription, two Alex and Ani bracelets (one that says sister and another pretty bead one), a Starbucks gift card with mug, and a really cute wine glass (mommy's sippy cup). It came out really cute and I hope she likes it.

I can't help but post the picture of this cute little pup. She is all snuggled up beside me as I have been writing this. How can you not love her!

Well my wonderful boyfriend is here so I must go. I'm off to watch the Olympics opening ceremony. :)
